Portfolio Accountant

 

An established professional services organisation is looking for an experienced Portfolio Accountant to join its finance team in Hemel Hempstead.

This is a varied, hands-on position offering responsibility for a portfolio of client accounts. You’ll manage the accounting process from day-to-day transactional activity through to budgeting, reconciliations and year-end reporting, ensuring information is accurate, deadlines are met and queries are resolved efficiently.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the accounting requirements for an allocated client portfolio
  • Preparing annual budgets, cash-flow forecasts and variance reports
  • Completing monthly bank and control account reconciliations
  • Processing journals, receipts, supplier invoices and payment requests
  • Producing year-end accounts packs and supporting documentation
  • Liaising with external accountants and auditors
  • Monitoring outstanding balances and producing accurate debtor reports
  • Investigating discrepancies and resolving unreconciled items
  • Responding to queries from clients, colleagues and suppliers
  • Maintaining clear and well-documented accounting records
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and financial controls

About you

You’ll be an organised and dependable accounts professional who enjoys taking ownership of a varied workload. You should be comfortable managing multiple deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Previous experience in a client accounting or portfolio-based finance role
  • Strong reconciliation and transactional accounting experience
  • Exposure to budgeting and year-end accounting processes
  • Confident Excel skills, including lookups and pivot tables
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive approach to investigating and resolving queries
  • Experience using specialist accounting software

Package

  • Salary of approximately £32,000, depending on experience
